Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Co-op located?

Dorchester Food Co-op is located at 195 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester, MA 02122, at the corner of Bowdoin and Topliff Streets. The store is accessible via MBTA Bus Routes 15 and 17 and is approximately a 12-minute walk from the Fairmount Line. Parking is available in the lot to the left of the store entrance, and on-street parking is often available. U-Haul van and truck rentals are also available onsite.

When did the co-op open?

Dorchester Food Co-op celebrated its Grand Opening on October 14, 2023. The co-op is located within a mixed-use development led by VietAID, which received affordable housing tax credits from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in February 2020 and began construction in January 2021. The co-op began building out the store interior in fall 2022 and officially opened its doors one year later.

Why become a Member-Owner if anyone can shop at the co-op?

Everyone is welcome to shop at Dorchester Food Co-op, whether or not they are a member. However, becoming a Member-Owner is one of the most meaningful ways to support the co-op’s long-term success and community impact.

Your one-time $100 membership share is an investment in a community-owned grocery store committed to food access, economic opportunity and local ownership. Membership equity helps strengthen the co-op’s financial foundation as we continue to grow, alongside store sales, grants, donations and community-focused financing. Just as importantly, a growing membership demonstrates broad community support, helping the co-op secure additional funding and resources when needed.

More than 2,000 Member-Owners have already joined this community-led movement. We hope you’ll be part of it, too.
